The System Is Rigged: How Social Media Turns Focus Into Profit

The System Is Rigged Against Your Attention
Not broken. Built this way.

Welcome back to the circus.

They told you your attention span is weak.

They told you people are lazy now. Distracted. Addicted. Unable to focus. Too soft to read. Too scattered to think.

Cute story.

But here is the uglier version:

Your attention was not simply lost.
It was engineered away from you.

The modern internet is not designed to make you wiser, calmer, healthier, or more free. It is designed to keep you engaged long enough to collect data, serve ads, predict behavior, and sell access to your mind.

That is not a conspiracy.

That is the business model.

In 2024, the Federal Trade Commission reported that major social media and video streaming companies engaged in extensive surveillance of users in order to monetize personal information, while failing to adequately protect users, especially children and teens.

So when you open an app for “just five minutes” and wake up from the trance 47 minutes later, that is not a personal moral collapse.

That is product design doing its job.

And the product is you.

The Illusion: You Are in Control

The great lie of the digital age is that you are choosing what you consume.

You choose the app.
You choose the video.
You choose the post.
You choose the feed.

That is the showroom version.

Behind the curtain, platforms are choosing what gets placed in front of you, when it appears, how it is packaged, which emotion it triggers, and what you are most likely to do next.

The feed is not neutral.

It is not a library.

It is not a town square.

It is a casino with better math.

Every swipe is measured.
Every pause is logged.
Every like is a signal.
Every comment is fuel.
Every outrage click is an unpaid contribution to a machine that learns how to pull you back tomorrow.

The genius of the system is that it makes the cage feel like a mirror.

You think the feed reflects your interests.

Sometimes it does.

But it also shapes them.

It learns what you like. Then it learns what you cannot resist. Then it learns what makes you angry, insecure, curious, lonely, horny, jealous, afraid, righteous, or desperate to belong.

Then it feeds the beast.

And when your brain starts to feel like static, the system shrugs and says:

“Maybe you should try mindfulness.”

The circus sells you the fire, then sponsors the extinguisher.

The Machinery: Engagement Is the Game

Most platforms are not rewarded when you close the app feeling satisfied.

They are rewarded when you stay.

That means the system has a very simple incentive: keep your attention captured for as long as possible.

A 2024 study of very large online platforms identified hundreds of engagement-prolonging design features. The researchers grouped these tactics into strategies that pressure, entice, trap, and lull users into spending more time online. Social media platforms used especially high numbers of these designs.

That means the endless scroll is not just convenient.

Autoplay is not just helpful.

Notifications are not just reminders.

Algorithmic recommendations are not just discovery.

These are hooks.

Some are soft hooks. Some are obvious hooks. Some are wrapped in entertainment, friendship, news, comedy, outrage, beauty, politics, fitness, music, or fake productivity.

But the purpose is the same:

Do not let the user leave.

The app does not need to

KHAOS KLOWN KREW UNLEASHES NEW ALBUM: Burn the System — No Gods, No Kings 14-Track Industrial Metal Manifesto Out Now on All Platforms

Khaos Klown Krew, the solo industrial metal and multimedia project of Jon Grinmaster, has released its debut album Burn the System — No Gods, No Kings — a 14-track wall of NDH-influenced industrial metal built entirely by one person, without a label, without a committee, and without compromise.

Written, recorded, produced, and released in total creative independence, Burn the System — No Gods, No Kings is a confrontational, cinematic record that takes direct aim at false authority, systemic control, propaganda, and the machinery of manufactured consent. From the iron-lunged opening salvo of Iron Storm Rising to the cold, inevitable reckoning of Death Loves Dictators, the album builds a coherent, uncompromising world across fourteen tracks — heavy, mechanical, and deliberate from start to finish.

Rooted in the traditions of Neue Deutsche Härte and industrial metal, with the dark cinematic weight of acts like Rammstein, Ministry, and KMFDM, Khaos Klown Krew carves out its own space — harder, more direct, and entirely self-built. Deep baritone vocals, crushing guitar-driven riffs, and programmatic percussion drive an album that does not soften its edges or ask for permission.

"No throne survives. No master owns this," the project states simply. The music makes good on that promise.

They Called It Garbage. Good.

Metal Archives rejected the Khaos Kown Krew submission this week.

The exact words: "We don't approve such AI garbage."

No appeal process. No criteria explained. No conversation. Just a door slammed by people who appointed themselves the gatekeepers of what counts as real metal - and apparently, what counts as real music, real art, and real creative work.

Let me be clear about something: I'm not writing this because it hurt. I'm writing this because it's funny. And because it proves a point the music was already making before they opened their inbox.

Here's a system - a database, a committee, a set of rules maintained by anonymous moderators on a website - that has decided it owns the definition of legitimate. It decides what gets listed. What gets named. What gets counted. And when something arrives that doesn't fit the shape of what they expected, they don't engage with it. They don't listen to it. They label it, dismiss it, and move on. Sound familiar? It should. I wrote fourteen tracks about exactly that behaviour.

Praise the dust - the album

Praise the dust music album cover

We didn’t set out to make something comfortable.

We set out to make something that lingers in your lungs.

Today, we are announcing the release of Praise the Dust, the new album from Khaos Klown Krew — and if we're being honest, this one feels less like a project and more like a document of collapse.

You can find us on: 🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/2I2h2B... 🍎 Apple Music: https://music.lnk.to/6O8tw9

Why Praise the Dust Exists

There’s a moment — somewhere between breaking and rebuilding — where everything turns to dust. Not metaphorically. Not poetically. Just… gone. Systems fail. Beliefs crack. Identity fractures.

That’s where this album lives.

Praise the Dust isn’t about hope in the traditional sense. It’s about what happens after hope burns out. It’s about standing in the aftermath and choosing to witness it instead of looking away.

I wanted to capture that exact feeling:

  • the weight of silence after noise
  • the ritual of destruction
  • the strange clarity that comes when everything unnecessary is stripped away

The Sound: Ritual, Weight, and Atmosphere

From the very first track, this album moves

Khaos omelette!

Break, press, crush: Omelette! Khaos omelette!

This is how it's done!

Khaos omelette - The Industrial Cooking Anthem Built to Ignite

Khaos Omelette: The Industrial Metal Song That Turns Chaos Into Power

What if chaos wasn’t the problem — but the ignition?

“Khaos Omelette” by Khaos Klown Krew takes one of the most absurd titles in heavy music and transforms it into something explosive, cinematic, and strangely powerful.

At first glance, the name feels ironic.
After the first 10 seconds, it feels intentional.

This isn’t novelty metal.
This is ritual energy wrapped in mechanical aggression.
